Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that the Football Association is looking into allegations of discriminatory comments made by a female goalkeeper on the team. The reported remarks by Rafaela Borggräfe were reportedly heard by members of the Liverpool team and staff during a photo-shoot session.
In response to the reports concerning Borggräfe, Liverpool Women issued a statement acknowledging awareness of the alleged use of discriminatory language by one of its players. The club stated that it has fully implemented its protocols and reported the incident to the FA, which is now conducting an investigation with Liverpool’s cooperation.
Expressing a strong stance against discrimination, the club emphasized that such behavior has no place in football or society and refrained from providing further comments while the investigation is ongoing.
Borggräfe, aged 25, has not yet played in a match for Liverpool since joining the Women’s Super League team from Freiburg in July on a free transfer. While she was not included in the squad for Liverpool’s initial league game, she has since resumed training with the team. Borggräfe served as an unused substitute in the recent match against Leicester, and Liverpool is scheduled to play against Aston Villa on September 21.
