The Calgary Flames have decided not to pursue re-signing Dillon Dube, a former player who, along with four others, was cleared of sexual assault charges related to an incident in 2018. Flames GM Craig Conroy confirmed the team’s lack of interest in bringing Dube back, suggesting that a fresh start might be beneficial for the player. Dube, who served as captain of the Canadian junior team in 2018 and was a second-round pick by the Flames in 2016, accumulated 57 goals and 70 assists in 325 games over six seasons with the team. He took a hiatus from the Flames in January 2024 to focus on his mental well-being. The sexual assault charges against Dube and the other players were dropped, leading to the expiration of Dube’s contract with the Flames last year. Following an eight-week trial, an Ontario Superior Court judge acquitted the players, and the Crown chose not to appeal the decision. The NHL has reinstated the athletes, making them eligible to sign contracts starting October 15 and participate in games from December 1 onwards.
