In a courtroom at the Longueuil Courthouse, a 47-year-old woman admitted to committing aggravated assault by throwing scalding water on a young child. Stéphanie Borel pleaded guilty to the charge, which stems from an incident that occurred last October.
An agreed statement of facts indicated that there was no evidence to suggest that Borel, who is of white descent, targeted the Black boy based on his race. The boy had shared that while walking home from school with friends in a city on the South Shore of Montreal, they passed in front of the woman’s residence in a multi-residential building near the intersection of Curé-Poirier Boulevard East and Chambly Road.
Upon returning home around 4 p.m., the boy informed his father that someone had thrown boiling water on him, causing burns. A publication ban has been implemented to safeguard the identity of the child, who was 10 years old at the time of the incident.
