“Ticketmaster Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over Unfair Service Fees”

Must read

The Quebec Superior Court has approved a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster, alleging the company imposed unfair service fees on ticket purchases. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled that the plaintiffs have satisfied the criteria for a full trial and could receive compensatory refunds if successful.

The lawsuit, initiated by Montreal-based law firm Paquette Gadler, asserts that Ticketmaster’s service fees breach Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and the Quebec Civil Code. The legal action contends that Ticketmaster’s fee structure, which varies with ticket prices rather than reflecting the actual service costs, is deemed exploitative.

The lawsuit, filed in August 2024 on behalf of plaintiff Felipe Morales, represents Quebec residents who acquired tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events starting from July 2021. Ticketmaster, a global ticket vendor for concerts, sports, and other entertainment, has not yet commented on the recent court ruling.
