Must read

Sandy Brondello is poised to take on the role of the inaugural head coach for the Toronto Tempo. Following her tenure with the New York Liberty, where she guided the team to their first WNBA championship in 2024, Brondello’s contract was not renewed after a season plagued by injuries that led to an early exit from the playoffs.

Brondello, who boasts a successful coaching record, was also a candidate for the head coach position with the Dallas Wings, while the Seattle Storm is also seeking a new head coach. The announcement regarding Brondello’s new role was initially disclosed by The Next.

During her time with the New York Liberty, Brondello achieved a notable 107-53 record over four seasons, making her the winningest coach in franchise history. Despite a strong start with nine consecutive victories, the team faced challenges as injuries began to impact their performance.

Prior to her stint with the Liberty, Brondello secured a championship title with the Phoenix Mercury during her eight-year tenure. Her impressive coaching abilities were recognized when she joined the Liberty in 2022 after guiding the Mercury to the WNBA Finals in 2021.

After losing in the finals to Las Vegas in 2023, New York bounced back in the following season, clinching the championship with a thrilling Game 5 overtime triumph against Minnesota. The Toronto Tempo is looking forward to Brondello’s leadership as they gear up for their debut season next year.
