“China Showcases Advanced Humanoid Robots at CCTV Gala”

Must read

China’s highly anticipated annual CCTV Spring Festival gala recently featured a showcase of the nation’s advanced industrial policies and Beijing’s efforts to lead in humanoid robots and future manufacturing. At the event, four emerging humanoid robot startups, namely Unitree Robotics, Galbot, Noetix, and MagicLab, presented their innovative products. This gala, akin to the Super Bowl in the United States, is a pivotal moment for China.

The program highlighted humanoid robots in various acts, such as a martial arts demonstration where Unitree humanoids engaged in intricate fight sequences alongside human performers. Notably, the robots displayed coordination and fault recovery abilities, including getting up after falling down, mirroring China’s “drunken boxing” martial arts style.

Additionally, Bytedance’s AI chatbot Doubao and Noetix humanoid robots shared the stage with human actors in comedic skits. Meanwhile, MagicLab robots performed a synchronized dance with human performers to the tune of “We Are Made in China.”

The excitement surrounding China’s humanoid robot sector coincides with upcoming initial public offerings by major players like AgiBot and Unitree. Furthermore, during the Lunar New Year holiday, domestic artificial intelligence startups are set to unveil cutting-edge models.

China’s President Xi Jinping has shown support for the robotics industry, meeting with startup founders and providing visibility to the sector. Last year’s gala featured 16 full-size Unitree humanoids performing alongside human dancers, garnering widespread praise.

China’s focus on humanoid robots aligns with its strategy to leverage AI and automation in manufacturing, aiming to boost productivity amid demographic challenges. The country’s dominance in humanoid robot shipments globally, accounting for 90% of deliveries last year, underscores its prowess in this sector. Industry projections suggest a significant increase in China’s humanoid robot sales this year.

Elon Musk, acknowledging China’s competitive edge, recognizes Chinese companies as formidable rivals in the AI space. The country’s commitment to innovation and industrial transformation continues to draw attention and investment, reinforcing its position as a global tech leader.
