The Women’s Professional Baseball League has revealed that New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will be the home cities for the four teams participating in its inaugural season, as announced on Tuesday. Justine Siegal, a co-founder of the league and the first woman to coach for an MLB team (Oakland Athletics in 2015), had previously disclosed plans to launch the league in 2026 with six teams, featuring a regular season, playoffs, and an all-star game.

This upcoming league marks the first professional women’s baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954, famously depicted in the movie “A League of Their Own.” The WPBL will kick off with four teams in its debut season, each consisting of 15 players.

Following summer tryouts, the top 100 players have progressed to the league’s draft scheduled for next month. Notable figures like former Little League star Mo’ne Davis, USA baseball’s Kelsie Whitmore, and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato are set to be part of the draft. All matches in the WPBL’s 2026 season will be held at a neutral site, with the specific venue to be announced later. The selection of the four cities was based on their market size and strong fan base presence, according to the league.

Justine Siegal expressed enthusiasm about connecting with fans in these renowned sports cities, stating, “Each of these cities are storied sports cities, and we can’t wait to connect with the fans who live there and baseball fans across the country.”
