Nova Scotia RCMP reported that a tragic incident occurred on Lake Rossignol, N.S., where a boat capsized late Saturday, resulting in the death of two children under the age of 10. The boat, a flat-bottom canoe with a malfunctioning motor, was carrying a 45-year-old man and three children from Fall River, N.S. The identities and relationships of those involved were not disclosed by the RCMP.

According to Const. Mandy Edwards, all four individuals were wearing life-jackets, and the man had checked the weather conditions beforehand. Unfortunately, the weather worsened, causing high waves that led to the boat taking on water and ultimately capsizing. The challenging wave conditions made it difficult for the children, who struggled as the situation unfolded.

A rescue operation was launched just before 5 p.m. AT on Saturday, with the RCMP, local fire departments, paramedics, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre responding promptly. The individuals were transported to the hospital via a military Cormorant helicopter on the advice of paramedics at the scene. The two survivors sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Lake Rossignol, situated in Queens County, southwestern Nova Scotia, has become the site of this tragic boating accident. The incident has left the community in mourning as the authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking event.
