AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been honored as the coach of the year in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league’s debut season, achieving a remarkable 16-6-3 record. Toronto accumulated 51 points, securing a comfortable 12-point lead over their closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both ended the season with 39 points.
The coach of the year award was determined through a vote among the six NSL coaches, with each coach ineligible to vote for themselves. The selection process mirrored the players’ annual awards, where players vote for their peers.
Toronto topped the six-team league in goals scored, netting a total of 42 goals, and ranked second in goals conceded, narrowly trailing behind Montreal.
Toronto will kick off the playoffs against Montreal on Saturday in the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday.
Before joining Toronto, Milanovic accumulated over a decade of coaching experience with North Toronto Soccer, including steering the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
