Trump asserted that the boat was carrying drugs, claiming that evidence had been obtained by U.S. authorities. He mentioned finding bags of cocaine and fentanyl in the ocean as proof. The President also stated that recorded evidence and information about the vessel’s cargo supported the operation.
The recent strike follows a significant U.S. military presence buildup in the southern Caribbean, including the deployment of F-35 aircraft and warships in the region. Trump hinted at potential land operations against suspected drug smugglers during his interaction with reporters.
Earlier in September, an operation targeted a Venezuelan gang allegedly associated with the government led by President Nicolás Maduro. The legality and justification of these actions have raised concerns among lawmakers, with Democratic Senator Adam Schiff drafting a resolution to restrict further military strikes without congressional approval.
