After a recent flight, Pavel Talankin, an Academy Award winner for co-directing the documentary “Mr. Nobody Against Putin,” faced a situation where his Oscar went missing temporarily. The incident occurred when a TSA agent at New York’s JFK Airport insisted that the Oscar could not be carried onboard due to security concerns, leading to it being checked in a box for the flight to Frankfurt, Germany. Unfortunately, the Oscar did not reach its destination initially.
Following public attention drawn to the missing Oscar, Lufthansa airline confirmed on Friday that the statue had been located and was safe in their possession in Frankfurt. They expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that arrangements for its prompt return to Talankin were being made. An internal review of the situation is currently underway.
The collaboration between Talankin and his co-director, David Borenstein, resulted in their documentary winning the Academy Award for best documentary. The film portrayed Talankin, known as “Mr. Nobody,” capturing footage of his students supporting Putin’s actions in Ukraine. Their acceptance speech at the Oscars ceremony resonated with a plea for peace and an end to conflicts for the sake of the future generation.
Despite the incident, the TSA did not provide an immediate response to inquiries made on Friday.
