Police in York Region issued a warning to the public following a recent coyote incident in Markham, Ont., on Sunday evening. The authorities reported that a coyote had bitten a young child in the head at a park located near Roy Rainey and Bur Oak avenues at approximately 7:30 p.m. The child, around five years old, was promptly transported to a hospital, although the injury was not deemed life-threatening. Law enforcement advised residents to exercise caution while in the parks situated in the McCowan Road and 16th Avenue vicinity in Markham.
This incident follows a similar occurrence from last week when a 16-year-old girl was bitten by a coyote in the region of Mingay and Bur Oak avenues. The girl sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment. Police emphasized the importance of staying vigilant, maintaining a safe distance from wildlife, and refraining from approaching or feeding coyotes.
