Saskatoon has been chosen as the host city for the 2027 Brier, marking the 100th year of the men’s curling championship. The milestone event will commence on February 26, 2027, at the SaskTel Centre, marking Saskatoon’s seventh time hosting the Brier. This announcement was made by Curling Canada at a local Montana’s BBQ & Bar, the title sponsor of the Brier. Tickets for the event are expected to be available for purchase as early as March.
CurlSask executive director Steve Turner expressed excitement about hosting the Brier in Saskatchewan due to the province’s deep-rooted connection to curling. He emphasized that curling holds significant cultural importance in the region, and Saskatchewan has a history of enthusiastic and knowledgeable fans. The last time Saskatchewan hosted the national men’s curling championship was in 2024 in Regina, with successful outcomes for Saskatchewan teams.
The 1980 Brier victory by the Saskatoon-based rink led by Rick Folk, Ron Mills, Tom Wilson, and Jim Wilson remains a highlight in Saskatchewan’s curling history. Mayor Cynthia Block highlighted the opportunity to showcase Saskatoon and celebrate the sport’s heritage in the province at the announcement event. She expressed pride in the local community’s passion for curling and anticipated making the 2027 Brier a memorable and thrilling experience.
The successful bid for hosting the Brier was a collaborative effort by Discover Saskatoon and Saskatoon Destination Marketing Hotels Inc. Discover Saskatoon, the city’s official destination marketing organization, secured funding to support the bid, aiming to generate substantial economic benefits for the city. The event is projected to boost business sales, provincial tax revenue, and hotel bookings, contributing to the local economy.
Following the approval of the bid, Discover Saskatoon is expected to provide detailed reports to the city council regarding participation numbers, economic impact, and event budget specifics. The inaugural Brier took place in Toronto in 1927, and the upcoming 2027 Brier winner will represent Canada at the World Men’s Curling Championship. As preparations continue for the 2027 event, the 2026 Brier is scheduled to be held in St. John’s, N.L., starting on February 27.
