Bruce Springsteen has announced the release of a new box set titled Tracks II: The Lost Albums, featuring 83 songs, the majority of which have never been released before. The collection includes seven “lost” albums that were previously unreleased due to Springsteen feeling they were incomplete or missing something at the time of their creation.
During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Springsteen had the opportunity to revisit these recordings stored in the “vault.” The box set, set to be released on June 27 in various CD and LP formats, will also include a 100-page hardcover book in some editions.
The set will feature material from as early as 1983, including sessions from Los Angeles that have been widely bootlegged. Notable tracks include an alternate take of “My Hometown” and a rendition of “Johnny Bye-Bye.” The bulk of the collection is believed to be from the 1990s, a decade marked by Springsteen’s unique career trajectory.
In addition to orchestra-driven and country-tinged songs, the box set will also include a disc dedicated to the Streets of Philadelphia sessions, named after Springsteen’s Oscar-winning song. A new rock track, “Raised on the River,” was released on streaming platforms alongside the announcement.
This release marks Springsteen’s first original material since 2020’s Letter to You. The artist, known for his work ethic and commitment to his craft, has been continuously creating music even during perceived “lost periods.” The box set promises to shed light on lesser-known aspects of Springsteen’s career and musical evolution.
Springsteen’s recent activities include wrapping up a tour with the E Street Band in Vancouver and gearing up for a European and U.K. tour starting in May. Additionally, a trailer for the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen, was recently previewed at Cinemacom in Las Vegas, with a release expected later this year.
