Bruce Springsteen has released a new song titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” dedicated to the residents of Minneapolis and critical of President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement activities in the city. The song’s lyrics depict a city in turmoil facing challenges under what Springsteen refers to as “King Trump’s private army.” Springsteen mentioned that he wrote and recorded the song in response to a recent fatal shooting by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, specifically honoring the victims named Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
In contrast, a White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, stated that the Trump Administration’s focus is on collaborating with state and local Democrats to enhance public safety by removing dangerous criminal illegal immigrants, dismissing Springsteen’s song as an irrelevant opinion with inaccuracies. The song starts with a simple acoustic guitar and vocals, gradually building up to a full band arrangement with a harmonica solo, concluding with the chant “ICE Out!”
Throughout the song, Springsteen’s lyrics express solidarity with Minneapolis and its immigrant community, emphasizing the city’s resilience and unity. The title “Streets of Minneapolis” draws a parallel to Springsteen’s earlier song “Streets of Philadelphia,” which was featured in the 1993 film “Philadelphia.” Springsteen has a history of openly criticizing President Trump, prompting public exchanges between the two, with Trump previously labeling Springsteen as “overrated” and Springsteen denouncing the administration’s actions during his tour in England.
