Canadian track athlete Marco Arop claimed a bronze medal at the Japan National Stadium with a season-best time of 1:41.95 in the men’s 800-meter final. Arop finished behind Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya and Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, who took gold and silver, respectively. Arop, celebrating his 27th birthday, expressed happiness with his podium finish, adding to his collection of world championship medals.

Canada now holds four medals going into the final day of competition, with Arop’s bronze contributing to the tally. Arop, with one gold and two bronze world championship medals in the 800-meter event, showcased a strong performance. In another event, Canadian Sarah Mitton fell short of a shot put podium finish despite a strong start, finishing fourth.

Canadian relay teams also made their mark, with the men’s 4×100-meter team securing a spot in the finals with a promising performance. Led by Jerome Blake and including Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney, and Andre De Grasse, the team displayed potential for a medal. The women’s 4×100 team set a national record and advanced to the final as well.

However, Pierce LePage of Canada had to withdraw from the decathlon, impacting Canada’s hopes in the event. On a brighter note, American Anna Hall clinched the world heptathlon title, marking her first major victory after years of consistent performances. Hall’s triumph adds to the legacy of American heptathlon success, following in the footsteps of legend Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
