Cricket Canada has taken immediate action by suspending CEO Salman Khan with full pay and benefits in a move aimed at maintaining the organization’s integrity and ensuring fairness. This decision, clarified as non-disciplinary, follows Khan and another individual facing theft and fraud charges exceeding $5,000 related to their involvement with the Calgary and District Cricket League.
Khan, who denied the allegations through a statement on social media from the Alberta Cricket Association, emphasized the falsehood of the accusations and expressed readiness to defend himself. Cricket Canada President Amjad Bajwa highlighted the suspension as a response to the negative impact associated with Khan.
While the legal charges are pending, Cricket Canada disclosed that an independent special committee, alongside the executive committee and external legal advisors, is conducting a comprehensive review, although the specifics of the review were not detailed. The organization reaffirmed its dedication to its vision, mission, players, and the broader Canadian cricket community.
In a related development, Cricket Canada faced a temporary suspension from the Canadian Safe Sport Program due to non-compliance with participant e-learning and consent obligations. However, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport later reinstated Cricket Canada, acknowledging the organization’s efforts to meet the required standards.
