“Firefighters Battle Blaze in Abandoned Ogden Legion”

Must read

Firefighters were engaged in combatting a blaze that erupted in the abandoned legion building in Ogden during the early hours of Wednesday. Responding to the incident at 78th Avenue and Ogden Road S.E. around 2:45 a.m., spokesperson Alex Kwan from the Calgary Fire Department reported on the situation. The structure, which has remained vacant for over ten years and was marked for demolition following a city directive in 2023, posed risks due to potential asbestos and other dangers. Consequently, fire crews opted for a defensive strategy using water towers to tackle the flames. Kwan mentioned that access to the interior was restricted. By approximately 6:30 a.m., the fire was under control, yet 30 firefighters and 11 units continued efforts to fully extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
