“Ford Recalls 600K+ Vehicles Due to Brake, Light Malfunction”

Must read

Ford is initiating a recall of over 600,000 vehicles in Canada and around 4.3 million in the U.S. as a result of a software malfunction that could lead to trailer brake failure and exterior light malfunction. The affected vehicles include specific models of Ford’s popular lineup, such as select F-150s from 2021-2026, Super Duty trucks from 2022-2026, Rangers from 2024-2026, and Mavericks from 2022-2026.

To address the issue, Ford will be rolling out an over-the-air software update for the impacted vehicles. Customers can opt for the update via mobile service or by visiting a Ford dealership. The software update is expected to be accessible for most Canadian vehicles by the end of March and for all vehicles by the end of May.

The software glitch can disrupt communication between the vehicle and the trailer when towing, resulting in non-functional stop lamps and turn signals on the trailer. It may also lead to a loss of braking function in some cases. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that malfunctioning trailer lights or brakes can hinder the driver’s ability to control the trailer, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.

Ford has identified 407 incidents possibly linked to the recall but has confirmed no accidents or injuries associated with the issue. Drivers will receive a “Trailer Brake Module Fault” message and notice rapid flashing of the turn signal indicator in case of communication loss between the vehicle and the trailer.
