“Goodfood License Suspended Amid Compliance Concerns”

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has temporarily halted the operations of Goodfood, a meal kit and grocery delivery service based in Montreal. The suspension of Goodfood’s Safe Food for Canadians licence does not involve any product recalls, as stated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in a press release issued on Wednesday.

According to the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, food businesses engaged in manufacturing, processing, preserving, or packaging food for interprovincial or territorial distribution must possess a licence. The CFIA has specified that the licence suspension will only be lifted once the necessary corrective actions are implemented by the company.

In the instance of Goodfood, the compliance issues were associated with part four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, which pertains to preventive controls, as indicated by the federal agency. Failure to address the non-compliances within 90 days could lead to licence cancellation, according to the statement released.

The CFIA outlined the reasons for suspending Safe Food for Canadians licences, which include failure to adhere to the SFCA, the FDA, and related regulations, defaulting on licence fees, or endangering public safety by continuing licensed activities.

An unnamed representative from Goodfood Market Corp. expressed disappointment regarding the licence suspension of its Montreal facility but reassured customers that its Calgary facility remains fully operational and upholds high safety standards. The representative stated that there are no food safety concerns at the Montreal facility and that the suspension primarily revolves around procedural matters such as complaint reviews. Goodfood has requested a review of its file and is optimistic about promptly addressing any perceived gaps.

The spokesperson assured customers that the impact of the decision would be minimal, with nationwide deliveries continuing as usual, albeit with some exceptions.
