Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody in the early hours of Monday following an incident involving a ride-hail driver, as confirmed by authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call just past midnight at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., near Hollywood Hills.

Law enforcement officials stated that the 59-year-old Canadian actor, known for his Emmy award-winning performances, allegedly assaulted the ride-hail driver and issued criminal threats towards them. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

Sutherland was apprehended by officers on suspicion of making criminal threats. Records from the jail indicated that he was released after posting a $50,000 US bond a few hours later, with his initial court appearance scheduled for Feb. 2.

Attempts to reach out to Sutherland’s representatives for comment went unanswered at the time of reporting.

Renowned for his role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the Fox TV series “24” and its spinoffs, Sutherland also starred in films like “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns.” Additionally, he appeared in movies directed by Rob Reiner, including “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”

Sutherland hails from a family of actors, being the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the grandson of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, who is credited with introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
