Leylah Fernandez Advances to Japan Open Semifinals

Canada’s rising tennis star, Leylah Fernandez, secured her spot in the semifinals of the Japan Open tennis tournament. Fernandez emerged victorious over Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova with a solid 7-6 (2), 6-3 win in the quarterfinals held on Thursday. Despite serving one ace and facing three double faults, the player from Laval, Quebec, managed to break her opponent’s serve on four out of nine opportunities during the match.

On the other side, Sramkova, who also registered one ace, struggled with seven double faults. She capitalized on two out of three break-point chances she had against Fernandez. Looking ahead, Fernandez is set to compete against the winner of the match between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the upcoming round of the tournament.
