Toronto’s rookie pitcher, Trey Yesavage, is set to take the mound as the Blue Jays kick off the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Rogers Centre on Friday. Yesavage boasts a record of 2-1, a solid 4.20 earned-run average, and has recorded 22 strikeouts in three postseason appearances. Notably, he delivered an outstanding performance against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, striking out 11 batters in 5 1/3 hitless innings.
After a challenging outing against Seattle in the AL Championship Series, Yesavage bounced back with a crucial win in Game 6, helping the Blue Jays stay alive in the competition. The Dodgers will counter with Blake Snell on the mound.
This marks the Blue Jays’ first appearance in the MLB championship since their consecutive titles in 1993, while the Dodgers are looking to defend their championship title. Blue Jays manager John Schneider has yet to reveal the Game 2 starter, with Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber in contention.
Yesavage, the 20th overall pick in last year’s draft from East Carolina University, has progressed through various minor league levels this season, showcasing his talent and versatility on the field. He finished the regular season with a commendable 3.21 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 14 innings during September.
There is also speculation that shortstop Bo Bichette might make a return for the World Series after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for over a month. Bichette, known for his impressive hitting stats, including a .311 batting average, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs, has been progressing well in his recovery. Manager John Schneider mentioned that Bichette could potentially play at shortstop, designated hitter, or second base.
As the highly anticipated World Series commences, Toronto fans eagerly await the matchup against the Dodgers, with Game 1 scheduled for Friday night.
