Russia conducted a significant drone and missile assault in Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals, including two children, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities. The attack targeted the country’s energy infrastructure, causing widespread power outages and injuring 18 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault, highlighting damages in several cities across the country.

Zelenskyy called on the European Union, the United States, and the G7 to impose sanctions on Russia in response to the attacks. In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft. The U.S. Treasury Department issued the sanctions, urging allies to support and adhere to them.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 405 drones and 28 missiles, with Ukraine successfully intercepting some of them. In a retaliatory move, Ukraine targeted a chemical plant in Russia, impacting its military and industrial capabilities. The conflict escalated further as Russia captured Ukrainian territories and targeted energy infrastructure in response to alleged Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilians.

Amid the ongoing crisis, diplomatic efforts between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were at a standstill. Despite discussions of a potential summit, no immediate plans for a meeting were confirmed. Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about Putin’s willingness to halt the conflict, emphasizing the need for international support in the form of defense systems to counter the aggression.

As the situation unfolded, numerous casualties were reported in various Ukrainian cities, prompting urgent rescue and repair efforts. The attacks caused extensive damages, including power outages in key regions. Both sides remained entrenched in their positions, with conflicting demands hindering progress towards a peaceful resolution.
