Fans of the popular TV series “The Handmaid’s Tale” will get the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of the show with a new event in Cambridge. The city has announced the launch of “Under His Eye: The Gilead Experience,” a self-guided tour featuring original props and items from the production. Mayor Jan Liggett expressed pride in Cambridge’s role in bringing the globally recognized story to life, emphasizing the city’s significance in the adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel.

Participants in the tour will have the chance to visit filming locations, including city streets, buildings, and local businesses where the Emmy Award-winning series was shot. Notable locations to explore include Commander Waterford’s office and the Queen’s Square, with iconic costumes such as the distinctive red cloaks worn by the Handmaids on display.

The exhibits will be showcased at two venues, city hall and the Cambridge Centre for the Arts, from October 22 to November 6. “The Handmaid’s Tale,” both the novel and the TV series adaptation, revolves around the story of Offred, one of the Handmaids tasked with breeding under a new social order. The series, which has garnered accolades such as Emmy and Golden Globe awards, has filmed multiple seasons in Cambridge.

The self-guided tour is complimentary and can be accessed through a printed map available at Cambridge city hall or online via The Gilead Experience exhibition and tour page on the city’s website.
