Thanksgiving Day falls on Monday, October 13 this year, leading to closures and reduced hours at various businesses. Here’s an overview of what to expect in terms of openings and closures, as well as activities to keep your family entertained during the holiday.
**Shopping:**
Both Masonville and White Oaks malls will be closed on Monday. The majority of major grocery stores will also be closed on the holiday. It is advisable to withdraw cash before Monday as all major banks will be closed.
**Alcohol:**
LCBO outlets will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, with most Beer Store locations following suit. However, some Wine Rack stores will remain open.
**Transit:**
The London Transit Commission will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday. You can find holiday schedules on the Routes & Schedules page on their website. While the downtown ticket office will be closed, the Highbury Avenue location will remain open. Real-time route tracking is available [here](https://realtime.londontransit.ca/#/app/nextdepartures).
**City and government services:**
Garbage collection will be cancelled on Monday, with regular shifts pushed back by one day. For clarification, refer to the collection schedule. All government offices, including Service Ontario and City Hall services, will be closed on the holiday.
**Things to Do:**
Experience the vibrant fall colors from the observation deck at London City Hall overlooking Victoria Park. The top floor will be open to the public this Saturday, with reservations available [here](https://london.ca/government/calendar/fall-love-forest-city-september-18-2024). Subsequently, the deck will be accessible from Thursday to Sunday until October 26.
Embark on guided hikes through the city’s trails at Meadowlilly, Kains Woods, or Kilally Meadows. These hikes cater to families with young children and adventurous youth explorers. Columbia Sportswear is the organizing sponsor, and bookings can be made [here](https://london.ca/living-london/recreation/columbia-sportswear-free-trail-walking-programs).
Celebrate Halloween at Storybook Gardens with the return of “Pumpkins After Dark,” a ticketed evening event featuring a maze and more, suitable for families, adults, and even dog-friendly nights.
Enjoy the holiday and plan your activities accordingly to make the most of the Thanksgiving break.
