A man who was serving time for manslaughter related to a triple homicide in 2018 has passed away in prison, according to Correctional Service Canada. Nicholas Shipman, aged 43, died at the Regional Treatment Centre in Millhaven Institution, as stated in a news release on October 2.

Shipman had previously pleaded guilty in 2021 to manslaughter charges in the deaths of three individuals from Six Nations: Michael Jamieson, Melissa Miller, and Alan Porter, following the 2018 incident. Initially facing second-degree murder charges for each victim, Shipman accepted the reduced charges.

On March 10, 2022, Superior Court Justice Paul Sweeny sentenced Shipman to 18 years in prison for his involvement in the triple homicide. The Correctional Service Canada has informed Shipman’s next of kin about his passing and will be examining the circumstances, with plans to inform the police and the coroner for further investigation.

A spokesperson from Correctional Service Canada informed CBC Hamilton that the cause of Shipman’s death will be determined by the coroner. The victims, Jamieson, Miller, and Porter, were identified as close friends by law enforcement after the tragic incident. Melissa Miller was pregnant at the time of her death.
