“Amazon Implements 3.5% Fuel Surcharge for Sellers”

Must read

Amazon has announced the implementation of a 3.5 per cent fuel surcharge on fulfillment fees for sellers in the United States and Canada. The surcharge will first affect those utilizing the Fulfillment by Amazon service, allowing sellers to delegate packing and shipping to Amazon’s fulfillment centers. This additional fee is set to commence on April 17 for online Amazon storefronts in the U.S. and Canada.

Sellers enrolled in Amazon’s Multi-Channel Fulfillment program, designed for those with non-Amazon sales channels like personal websites, will experience the surcharge starting from May 2.

A spokesperson for Amazon explained that rising fuel and logistics expenses have escalated operational costs across the industry. The company had previously absorbed these cost hikes but is now introducing temporary surcharges, in line with other major carriers, to offset some of these expenses. Amazon emphasized its commitment to supporting its selling partners’ success while ensuring a wide product selection and competitive pricing for customers.

In response to the global energy crisis triggered by the U.S. and Israel’s actions against Iran, various major companies providing consumer services have introduced fuel surcharges. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global oil and gas transportation, in retaliation has contributed to the spike in oil prices.
