The Canadian Screen Awards are gearing up to recognize actor Mike Myers, sportscaster Hazel Mae, and other notable figures during this year’s Canadian Screen Week. Myers, Mae, Canadian Film Centre executive director Maxine Bailey, and filmmaker Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will be lauded for their significant impact and achievements in the film and television industry. Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, expressed excitement over honoring these exceptional individuals for their creativity and contributions to Canadian screen arts.

Canadian Screen Week is scheduled to take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in the Canadian Screen Awards ceremony celebrating excellence in Canadian cinema, television, and digital media.

Mike Myers, the Toronto-born actor famous for his roles in “Saturday Night Live,” “Austin Powers,” and “Shrek,” will be receiving the Academy Icon Award this year. The Canadian Academy recognizes Myers as a versatile performer and an influential figure in the media industry, with over 80 film and television credits to his name.

Hazel Mae, a prominent figure in Canadian sportscasting known for her coverage of Toronto Blue Jays games, will be honored with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism. Mae, who captured the emotions of last year’s World Series, is acknowledged for her exceptional work in sports journalism.

Maxine Bailey, the executive director of the Canadian Film Centre, will be presented with the Changemaker Award for her efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion within Canadian media. Bailey’s work at the film centre and initiatives like Share Her Journey demonstrate her commitment to advancing equity and representation in the industry.

Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will receive the Sustainable Production Award for its environmentally conscious practices during production. The film, set in Montreal’s Mile End neighborhood, is commended for integrating sustainability into its creative process and community impact.

The Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Andrew Phung, will be broadcast on CBC and streamed on CBC Gem on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, this year’s ceremony will be simulcast on CTV, Crave, Global, and STACKTV.
