Despite finishing just two points behind Forge FC, who topped the CPL table, Atlético Ottawa’s victory puts them in the final. Forge FC still has a chance to make it to the final by winning the contender semifinal next weekend.
In the intense match on Sunday, Forge FC took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from David Choinière. However, Ottawa leveled the score ten minutes later with a goal from Gabriel Antinoro. The game’s winning goal came early in the second half when Atlético’s Sam Salter, the top scorer in the CPL single-season record, headed the ball into the net.
The two teams met four times in the regular season, with three matches ending in draws and Forge FC winning the fourth encounter. This victory propels Atlético Ottawa to the CPL final, showcasing their resilience and determination throughout the season.
