Waterloo regional police are currently looking into multiple vehicle accidents that have occurred recently, including incidents that have tragically resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians.
One incident took place on Friday when emergency responders were called to a collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian on Christopher Drive near Champlain Boulevard in Cambridge around 11:15 p.m. Regrettably, the pedestrian, a 60-year-old Cambridge woman, lost her life at the scene, while the pickup truck driver escaped unharmed.
Another incident occurred on Saturday on Wilmot Centre Road near Bleams Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a collision between a motorcycle and a pedestrian was reported. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old Wilmot man, was taken to a hospital outside the region, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the motorcycle, a 34-year-old male, did not sustain any injuries.
A spokesperson from the Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed to CBC News that there is no indication of impairment playing a role in either of these collisions.
In a separate early morning hit-and-run incident on Saturday around 12:30 a.m., police were notified of a car crashing into a hydro pole in the Christner Road and Waterloo Street vicinity in Wilmot. The driver fled the scene, causing significant damage to the pole and resulting in downed powerlines. Authorities mentioned that the vehicle involved, suspected to be a red Chevrolet Silverado from 2017-2021, might have extensive front-end damage and could be missing the Chevrolet emblem.
The police are actively investigating all three incidents. Individuals who witnessed the collisions or possess dashcam footage are encouraged to reach out to the police or Crime Stoppers to aid in the investigations.
