B.C. Lions Secure Playoff Spot with Six-Game Streak

The B.C. Lions have turned their season around with a six-game winning streak, securing second place in the CFL West Division after defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 27-21. They now hold an 11-7 record and will host the Calgary Stampeders in the West semifinal on Nov. 1 in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, finishing fourth in the West at 10-8, will face the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division semifinal. The Lions had a slow start with a 1-3 record but improved significantly in the second half of the season, finishing strong at 8-2.

Quarterback Nathan Rourke credited the team’s success to overcoming early mistakes and executing plays effectively. Despite a controversial play that could have impacted the game’s outcome, the Lions managed to secure the win. Rourke finished with an impressive 23 of 28 passing for 366 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

The Lions were trailing 21-19 in the fourth quarter when Rourke led a crucial scoring drive, resulting in a touchdown pass to Keon Hatcher. With a successful two-point conversion, the Lions took the lead 27-21 with four minutes remaining. Rourke’s performance throughout the season has been commendable, with 5,290 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

Looking ahead, the Lions are focused on their upcoming matchup against Calgary, aiming to continue their winning streak and advance in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who secured the top spot in the West, will have a week off before hosting the West final on Nov. 8.

Players from both teams expressed determination and focus heading into the post-season, emphasizing the importance of consistency and hard work. Despite challenges and controversial calls, the Lions and Riders are gearing up for intense playoff battles in the pursuit of the Grey Cup championship.
