Catherine O’Hara was honored with the Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series award at the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, a month following her passing. The renowned Canadian comedic actress, who passed away on January 30 at 71 years old due to a lung blood clot, had been privately battling rectal cancer.
O’Hara clinched the award for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the satirical Apple TV comedy series “The Studio.” She triumphed over a lineup of esteemed nominees including Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in “The Studio.”
During the announcement, the audience at Shine Auditorium erupted in cheers and rose to their feet for a standing ovation in honor of O’Hara. Seth Rogen, co-creator of “The Studio,” accepted the award on her behalf and praised her generosity and talent. Rogen recounted how O’Hara often sent revised scene suggestions the night before filming, consistently enhancing the show’s quality.
Apart from O’Hara’s win, “The Studio” dominated the comedy categories at the event, securing victories for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor for Rogen’s performance. O’Hara’s illustrious career spanned a variety of comedic roles, including appearances in SCTV skits, iconic movies like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” and the memorable character Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek.”
Before her passing, O’Hara had previously received two Actor Awards for her outstanding contributions to “Schitt’s Creek,” winning Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series with the rest of the cast.
