Renowned puppeteer Sid Krofft, known for creating colorful and eccentric characters during the 1960s and ’70s, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 10 at the home of his business partner Kelly Killian. Krofft, along with his brother Marty, played a pivotal role in producing various TV series, including their first show, “H.R. Pufnstuf,” which gained a cult following.
Describing the show as their “first baby,” Krofft led the whimsical adventures featuring a young boy, a talking flute, and a six-foot-tall dragon. Publicist Adam Fenton highlighted Krofft’s commitment to interacting with his dedicated fans until the end.
Puppeteer Ronnie Burkett fondly remembered Krofft’s youthful spirit, emphasizing his enduring passion and focus throughout his lengthy career. Burkett praised Krofft’s ability to constantly innovate and remain enthusiastic about new ideas well into his later years.

Jacobs emphasized the importance of maintaining a childlike enthusiasm in creating content for children and expressed hope for the continued exploration of innovative and playful concepts in children’s entertainment.
Recalling a memorable encounter with Sid Krofft at a show in Los Angeles, Jacobs recounted the touching moment when Krofft crowned him the “king of marionettes,” showcasing Krofft’s generosity and playful spirit. Jacobs cherished the experience of meeting his mentor face-to-face and acknowledged the enduring influence of older mentors in keeping the youthful spirit alive in creative endeavors.
