Prince Edward Island is set to host its largest television production ever this summer. The province will invest $5 million in the adaptation of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series, partially filmed in P.E.I. and Toronto.

Netflix Canada’s director of production management, Robin Neinstein, expressed the importance of filming on the Island, stating that P.E.I. is not just a backdrop but a vital character in the story. The production is expected to create 75 job positions, including production assistants, painters, and caterers.

Rob Riselli, executive director of Film P.E.I., highlighted that this opportunity will showcase the beauty of the Island and potentially attract more productions in the future, boosting the local economy.

Premier Rob Lantz praised the initiative as a significant development for the arts and culture sector in Prince Edward Island, emphasizing the global exposure the project will bring to the province.

Minister of Economic Development Jenn Redmond described the filming as an investment in the province’s arts and culture industry, positioning P.E.I. on a higher platform in the world of film production.

Despite initial concerns raised by the Opposition, Premier Lantz confirmed that the production will proceed as planned. The exact release date of the series for Netflix’s vast audience is yet to be announced.
