WestJet has announced a special offer for passengers with flights scheduled between July 30 and August 4. Travelers now have the option to make a one-time change or cancel their bookings without incurring any fees. This initiative aims to provide customers with increased flexibility and peace of mind amidst an ongoing labor dispute involving flight attendants.

Following a recent vote where 99.4% of WestJet flight attendants supported a strike, approximately 4,400 union members represented by CUPE Local 8125 could potentially go on strike starting August 2. WestJet expressed optimism in reaching a resolution without disrupting passengers but acknowledged the concerns surrounding travel uncertainties.

CUPE 8125 president, Alia Hussain, commended WestJet for allowing passengers to make changes to their bookings, recognizing the impact of the labor dispute on travelers. While the airline’s decision does not confirm an imminent strike, Hussain emphasized the importance of providing flexibility during uncertain times.

In 2024, WestJet faced a significant labor dispute when unionized airline mechanics went on strike over the Canada Day long weekend, affecting numerous travelers. WestJet reiterated its commitment to negotiations and expressed readiness to make necessary improvements for cabin crew while ensuring the airline’s long-term sustainability.
