Zahara Marley Jolie has had a significant year of milestones. Celebrating her 21st birthday in January, she successfully graduated from college in May. Recently, she formally submitted a request to legally change her last name, removing her father’s name from her own.
According to court documents, Zahara applied for the name change to Zahara Marley Jolie on June 5. Her brother, aged 24, also applied to change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie four days prior. Meanwhile, their younger sibling, Shiloh, had already dropped Pitt from her name back in 2024.
Although she had informally removed Pitt’s name some time ago, Zahara’s formal name change has once again sparked interest in the family dynamics. The Jolie-Pitt family has been under public scrutiny since Hollywood icons Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt began their relationship in 2005, continuing after their high-profile split in 2016.
The couple’s divorce settlement took eight years to reach. During this period, allegations surfaced from Jolie accusing Pitt of physical aggression towards her and their children. Pitt’s representative denied these claims, and the FBI, after reviewing the situation, did not pursue further investigation.
In November 2016, the former couple agreed to grant Jolie sole custody of their six children, aged between eight and 15 at the time, with provisions for therapeutic visits with Pitt. Pitt has openly discussed his struggles with alcohol and his journey to sobriety since 2016, crediting Alcoholics Anonymous for his nearly decade-long sobriety.
However, indications suggest that Pitt’s relationship with his children remains strained, as he has not been publicly seen or photographed with them for years. In contrast, Jolie frequently accompanies her children to red carpet events and openly discusses them in the media.
Despite attempts to seek comments from Pitt’s representatives, no response has been received by CBC News.
