In Italy’s capital, Rome, firefighters successfully rescued a worker trapped under rubble inside a medieval tower following a partial collapse during renovation work. Unfortunately, the worker, Octav Stroici, did not survive the ordeal. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed deep sorrow for the loss and extended condolences to Stroici’s family and colleagues.

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry identified the deceased worker as Octav Stroici and praised the rescuers for their efforts in the 11-hour extraction operation. Another Romanian worker was safely rescued and is now out of danger.

Rescuers faced challenges in reaching the trapped worker, utilizing various approaches before finally extracting Stroici from the tower. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri commended the cautious efforts of the rescue team to prevent further collapses during the delicate extraction process.

The Torre dei Conti, a historic tower undergoing restoration, experienced the tragic incident, drawing attention from tourists and emergency services. The tower, built in the 13th century, has a rich history of structural damages and renovations over the centuries.

After the collapse, investigations into possible charges related to negligence in disaster management were initiated by Italian prosecutors. Despite the tragedy, rescue operations and investigations continued as authorities worked to secure the site and assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
