“NHL Suspends Mitch Love for Rest of Season”

Must read

The NHL has taken action against Mitch Love by suspending him for the rest of the season following an investigation into allegations that surfaced during his interviews for various head-coaching positions across the league.

Love, who previously served as an assistant under coach Spencer Carbery with the Washington Capitals for the past two years, has been terminated by the team. He had been on leave since the previous month while the investigation was ongoing, with no specific information disclosed about the inquiry.

In response to the situation, the Capitals emphasized their commitment to upholding high standards of behavior and responsibility, leading to Love’s immediate dismissal. Love had not been involved with the team since the development camp in July.

The NHL clarified that Love’s suspension was due to behavior considered harmful to the league, pending a comprehensive investigation. He may seek reinstatement for the 2026-27 season under specific conditions.

Love, aged 41 as of June, was considered a strong contender for coaching positions, including potential openings in Pittsburgh and Seattle, based on his previous role as the head coach of the Calgary Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate from 2021 to 2023 before joining the Capitals.
