The Grey Cup game is set to return to Regina in 2027, marking the second time in five years that the CFL final will be hosted in the capital city and home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Premier Scott Moe, during the announcement on Monday, emphasized the opportunity in 2027 to showcase the strong fan base and community pride for the Saskatchewan football team.
Craig Reynolds, the president of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, acknowledged the crucial support from the City of Regina and the province in securing the 2027 Grey Cup, stating that Saskatchewan is known for hosting Grey Cups in a remarkable manner.
Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski’s spokesperson confirmed that the City of Regina has committed $1.5 million in cash and in-kind services, including transit shuttle and police support, for the Grey Cup event. Bachynski expressed that whether one is a devoted fan or a first-time visitor, they will be welcomed like family during the 2027 Grey Cup, promising an unforgettable experience.
The 2027 Grey Cup event will be the fifth championship hosted in Regina and the second at the new Mosaic Stadium. Scheduled for November 7, 2027, a week earlier than usual, the game holds high expectations as the Roughriders aim to impress on home ground.
Notably, the Roughriders have previously hosted the championship game four times, with the most recent being in 2022. The upcoming event will be a significant milestone for the team and the city.
CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston commended the collaborative effort from the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the province, the City of Regina, and local hotel operators in putting together an exceptional bid package. He highlighted the quality and support behind the bid, emphasizing the football culture deeply rooted in Saskatchewan.
A unique feature of the 2027 Grey Cup festival will be its indoor hosting, including the street festival, allowing attendees to enjoy the festivities without worrying about the weather conditions. Johnston praised Saskatchewan’s bid as “truly outstanding,” indicating that the decision to award the event to the province was well-deserved.
The current Grey Cup is scheduled to take place in Winnipeg on November 16, with Calgary set to host the event in 2026.
