Russian forces carried out a large-scale drone assault on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia late on Tuesday, causing fires, injuring 12 individuals, and causing extensive damage to structures and vehicles, according to the regional governor. Ivan Fedorov, communicating via the Telegram messaging platform, reported that the attack resulted in wrecked cars, demolished shops, and the destruction of seven residential buildings. He mentioned that 12 people were receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
“A coordinated rescue effort is underway at 12 different sites,” Fedorov stated in an online video. “A significant number of units from the State Emergency Services, national police, and our medical teams have been mobilized.”
Visuals shared online depicted firefighters combatting infernos at tall apartment complexes and charred vehicles on city streets. Emergency services, updating via Telegram, assured that the fires were being brought under control and that rescue operations were in progress.
A portion of the broader region falls under Russian control, with Russian forces holding significant parts of the territory in the Zaporizhzhia region and achieving recent advancements, while the city itself remains under Ukrainian authority. Yevgeny Belitsky, the Russian-appointed leader of the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, alleged that Ukrainian forces had targeted the power grid infrastructure in the Russian-controlled areas. According to Belitsky’s Telegram post, power supply disruptions affected 40,000 customers in towns under Russian control within the region.
The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which commenced in February 2022, has plunged the neighboring countries into a prolonged state of conflict. As both Ukraine and Russia extensively employ drones in the warfare, both sides have had to adjust their strategies to cope with the dynamic battlefield conditions and evolving threats posed by hostile drones.
