Roman Sadovsky is ready for the challenge. The current men’s national champion remains unfazed by Keegan Messing’s comeback to figure skating and is open to Stephen Gogolev’s resurgence. A competition is brewing for Canada’s solo men’s spot at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, and Sadovsky sees it as a positive development.
Expressing his love for competition, Sadovsky views the increased rivalry as motivation for his performance. As one of the 18 Canadian athletes participating in Skate Canada International in Saskatoon this weekend, Sadovsky aims to maintain his momentum after securing his second national title last January.
Despite Messing’s return and his impressive scores, Sadovsky anticipated the comeback, stating that it does not alter his focus or training goals. His coach, Tracey Wainman, emphasizes Sadovsky’s adaptability to unexpected circumstances in the sport.
While Messing will not compete at Skate Canada International, Sadovsky will face Gogolev for the third time this season. After recent successes at the Cranberry Cup and Nebelhorn Trophy, Sadovsky is optimistic about his performance in the upcoming events.
Acknowledging the challenges of aging in the sport, Sadovsky remains determined to make the most of the current season while evaluating his future in figure skating. He appreciates the heightened competition, viewing it as a driving force for his continued improvement and enjoyment of the sport.
