Céline Dion released a new single on Friday, signaling her return to the music scene. Titled “Dansons,” the gentle and romantic French ballad invites listeners to dance. Accompanying the release is a music video filled with romantic scenes set in Paris, showcasing couples dancing freely in public spaces.
This new single precedes Dion’s upcoming performances at the Paris La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 17. The announcement of her return follows mysterious hints in Paris, where lyrics from Dion’s popular songs like “My Heart Will Go On” and “The Power of Love” were displayed, sparking speculation about her comeback.
After facing health issues that led to the cancellation of her previous world tour, Dion has been absent from the stage. “Dansons,” written by renowned songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman, is her first French release in over a decade and her latest original song in years. Her previous release was in 2023 for the film soundtrack “Love Again.”
Dion and Goldman have a history of successful collaborations, including Dion’s albums “Encore un soir” in 2016 and “D’eux” in 1995, which remains the best-selling French-language album of all time. In 2023, Dion had to cancel her Courage world tour due to her battle with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects a small number of individuals.
Following the tour postponement in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dion made a public singing comeback in July 2024 by performing Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” at the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. She also sang at a fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November 2024, honoring designer Elie Saab’s 45-year career.
