The London Sports Hall of Fame is set to introduce a new group of six individuals on Thursday, November 6, at the Hellenic Community Centre. This class, with a combined total of over 20 gold medals or world titles on the global stage, is being lauded by the organizers as an exceptional achievement for the community’s size. Jay Minielly, the chair of the Hall of Fame committee, expressed confidence that upcoming classes will continue this legacy of success.
The 2025 inductees include Jeff Carter, a distinguished NHL all-star and Olympic gold medalist; Maggie Mac Neil, an accomplished Olympic and world champion swimmer; Jennifer Ogg, a renowned world champion boxer; Darda Sales, a versatile Paralympic champion in multiple sports; David Willsie, a five-time Paralympian and longtime captain of Canada’s wheelchair rugby team; and Murray Young, a prominent figure in Ontario’s rugby scene.
In addition to honoring the new inductees, the Hall will also recognize the recipients of the city’s 2025 Spirit of Sport awards during the ceremony.
London native David Willsie shared his surprise at being called to the Hall of Fame and recounted how his high school hockey coach, Tim Moore, personally informed him of the honor. Willsie’s journey, from a hockey accident that left him paralyzed to becoming a key player in wheelchair rugby, highlights his resilience and determination in overcoming challenges. His career, which includes multiple Paralympic Games and accolades, exemplifies his dedication to the sport and his pride in representing Team Canada.
For multi-sport Paralympian Darda Sales, the news of her induction came as a delightful surprise, describing it as the cherry on top of her illustrious career. Sales, who excelled in swimming and wheelchair basketball, emphasized her unwavering work ethic and determination in achieving success despite obstacles.
Boxing champion Jennifer Ogg, another London native being honored, expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing her accomplishments to her coaches and family. Ogg’s achievements in the boxing world, including national titles and international success, have solidified her reputation as a formidable athlete.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Hellenic Community Centre on Southdale Road. The event will commence with a meet-and-greet at 5:00 p.m., followed by the formal program at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be obtained through the London Sports Council website for those interested in attending.
