The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has commenced, marking the start of a nearly two-week celebration on the French Riviera. Filmmakers and celebrities graced the red carpet for the festival’s opening ceremony and the premiere of the movie “The Electric Kiss.”
The festival will showcase a continuous stream of world premieres over 12 days, culminating on May 23 with the prestigious Palme d’Or award presentation, one of the film industry’s most esteemed honors. Leading the Cannes jury this year is South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, accompanied by a panel that includes Stellan Skarsgård, Diego Céspedes, Laura Wandel, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Isaach de Bankolé, and Ruth Negga.
Notable figures expected to make appearances during the festival include Kristen Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Adam Driver, Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Rami Malek, and more. The festival kicked off with the presence of model and actor Heidi Klum at the opening ceremony.
Renowned filmmakers such as Pedro Almodóvar, James Gray, Na Hong-jin, Pawel Pawlikowski, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi will unveil their latest works during the event. Director Peter Jackson, honored with the Palme d’Or, was seen waving during the opening ceremony.
The glamorous event also saw personalities like TV host Kimberley Garner, actor Elijah Wood and his wife Mette-Marie Kongsved, Irish reality TV star Maura Higgins, and actor Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu gracing the red carpet and posing for photographers.
