Jamie Randy Felix, the individual accused in a mass shooting at a rooming house in Winnipeg, has formally pleaded not guilty to all charges. The plea was entered at the Court of King’s Bench on Monday morning, marking four months since the tragic incident in November 2023 that led to the death of the sole survivor, Shawn Marko, in a hospital.
Initially facing four counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, Felix saw the attempted murder charge elevated to a second-degree murder charge following Marko’s passing at the age of 56 in June. Marko, who had been undergoing treatment since the shooting, sustained three gunshot wounds that necessitated 11 surgical procedures. He was celebrating his 55th birthday on the night of the shooting, as per his family.
Felix also pleaded not guilty to the deaths of Melelek Leseri Lesikel, 29, Dylan Maxwell Lavallee, 41, and sisters Crystal Shannon Beardy, 34, and Stephanie Amanda Beardy, 33. Pre-shooting court documents revealed that Felix, a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces, had a documented history of psychotic episodes associated with seizures and substance abuse, coupled with diagnoses of alcohol use disorder and depression.
