The situation unfolded on March 5 when the California Highway Patrol received reports of a BMW driving recklessly on U.S. 101 in Ventura County near the Los Angeles County border. Spears, a resident of the area, underwent field sobriety tests and was subsequently apprehended on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of a mix of alcohol and drugs. She was briefly detained at a county jail before being released a few hours later.
The case was transferred to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23 for further assessment, and a determination on potential charges against Spears is expected prior to her court appearance scheduled for May 4.
A representative at the time denounced Spears’s actions as unacceptable and expressed hope that this incident would mark the beginning of a necessary transformation in her life.
