The Canadian ice hockey drama “Heated Rivalry” has been honored with the prestigious Peabody Award. Produced by Crave and Bell Media and distributed by HBO Max in the United States, the series became a surprise success upon its debut in November 2025. The show was recognized as one of the 11 winning television programs in the entertainment category.
According to the Peabody Awards jurors, “Heated Rivalry” effectively explores complex themes of sexuality and emotional connections, inspiring viewers and promoting healthy masculinity. The series, created by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax writer Rachel Reid, delves into a clandestine romance between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).
Tierney, in conjunction with the show’s official Instagram account, expressed gratitude for the award, emphasizing the intricate storytelling of the series. Reid also shared her pride in the achievement with a joyful emoji. The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario extended congratulations to the production team on social media, commending their work on the series.
The winners of the 86th Annual Peabody Awards will be celebrated at an event in Los Angeles on May 31st.
