Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man who allegedly attempted to unlawfully enter her Los Angeles residence without permission, labeling the incidents as “deeply concerning.” According to legal documents revealed by CBC News, Carpenter’s legal team is pursuing a permanent restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate.
Carpenter detailed in a signed statement that on May 23, Applegate intruded onto a neighbor’s property to bypass the security fencing protecting her home. Subsequently, he approached her front door and forcefully attempted to enter by grabbing the handle. Describing the incident as a deliberate and aggressive act, Carpenter expressed feeling deeply disturbed and violated.
Carpenter emphasized the fear for her safety induced by Applegate’s actions, presenting Ring security camera footage capturing him at her doorstep as evidence. She recounted how, despite her security personnel’s intervention leading to Applegate’s arrest, he returned to her residence the following day and lingered outside for hours. This behavior persisted over multiple days, prompting another police intervention.
The court documents highlighted a disturbing pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance by Applegate, causing Carpenter significant emotional distress. Security investigations revealed that Applegate’s fixation on Carpenter had been ongoing since at least April 20, 2026, with a concerning escalation noted over the following month.
Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department underscored in a statement that Applegate exhibited an alarming fixation on Carpenter. In response to the situation, a judge has mandated Applegate to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her residence, vehicle, workplace, as well as her sister and sister’s boyfriend, who reside with her. Applegate is scheduled for a follow-up court hearing on June 17 and a criminal court appearance on June 18 regarding his arrest for criminal trespassing.
