The search for a missing aircraft that was en route from Canada’s East Coast to Greenland has moved into its second day. Naviair, a state-owned Danish company overseeing air traffic services, stated to CBC News that it was alerted on Saturday around 4 p.m. local time about the disappearance of a single-engine plane.
Naviair confirmed on Sunday that the missing aircraft is registered under an American company and was traveling from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., with one individual onboard. The search operations resumed on Sunday via boat as aerial efforts were hindered by low-hanging clouds. Search activities were halted on Saturday night due to unfavorable weather conditions and limited visibility.
Rescue teams are focusing their efforts on the Sermitsiaq mountain area, located 15 kilometers northeast of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Happy Valley-Goose Bay, positioned in central Labrador, is approximately 850 kilometers northwest of St. John’s, with the Labrador Sea separating Labrador from Greenland.
